    Super Vet by REBrammer

This is what we are talking about.

...if you like fire breathing dragons.

Most of the pictures shown are 1969 Corvettes.

    This is because the

1970 Corvette ZR-2 “Off the road special” was never built for production.

The 1970 Corvette ZR-2 “Special Purpose LS6 Package” 454ci @465hp (530hp); Factory racing package was never released to the public due to the clean air act. I know this because I bought one, only to receive the ZR-1 instead.

The ZR-2 did come out in 1971 (8 built) but with reduced horsepower, 454ci@425hp engine.

What was released in 1970 was the ZR-1.

The ZR-1 included the LT1 Engine 350ci 370hp (400hp), M22 Transmission, heavy-duty power brakes, transistor ignition w/mechanical tack drive, special aluminum radiator, and special springs, shocks, and front and rear stabilizer bars. The ZR-1 also had a metal fan shroud & aluminum surge tank.

The package also included 4 fiberglass flared wheel wells (not installed). Cold air hood and side pipes could be ordered separately. The ZR2 would have been similar to the ZR1 except the ZR2 package included the LS6 454ci, 530hp engine & twin disk clutch.

The 1969 Corvette had the aluminum head L-88 427ci@500hp and the All aluminum ZL-1 L-88 427ci@585hp.

In mid 1970 the Repair Department of the St. Louis Corvette plant began building a limited number of ZR-1 Corvettes with LT-1 small-block motors, for competing in SCCA Class B racing, and the unreleased ZR-2 Corvettes with LS6 454 big-block motors for SCCA Class A.

In 1970 Car and Driver magazine readers vote the Corvette
    as Best All-Around Car.

Car 66 is a racing 1969 L-88 Corvette with ZL-1 flairs and header side pipes.

    • vet3

This yellow vet is a fairly stock ZL-1 Corvette with optional factory side pipes.

    • vet4

This green vet is pretty much a stock 1969 L-88 Corvette, with factory cold air hood.

    • This yellow vet is a stock 1970 Coup with the LT-1 engine and hood.

To build the 1970 ZR-2 concept car you take:

    • 1. 1970 ZR-1 Corvette Coup and add ZR-2 “Special Purpose LS6 Package” 454ci @530hp engine.
    • 2. Now grab the green 1969 L-88 hood and paint job. Mine was Donnybrook Green with Saddle leather seats.
    • 3. Install the 4 factory provided flared wheel wells & a set of blank outs for stock exhaust.
    • 4. Install a set of header side pipes. As an option modify factory side pipes heat shields to fit over them for looks and protection. Use quiet muffler inserts inside the side pipes.
    • 5. Modify the gas filler/cap, 4 speed shifter and seats.
    • 6. Slap on a nice set of tires and rims. Do not go crazy like I did.
    • 7. Add a good sound system. They don't come with radios or A/C.
    • 8. Your dragon will start to look like the Car 66 in sheep’s clothing.
    • 9. Keep the car street legal; as best you can.
    • My "Vette" one of 25 in 1970...actually one of 1 with options. (Cold air hood and side pipes)

Before flairs   After flairs Notice there is no radio or A/C. Cold Air

With the $969.00 ZR-1 option my car still cost less than $6000 compared to the 2010 with a $106,880 price tag.

GM did come out with a ZR-2 off-road truck. This 2003 was the last year they made them. So I bought one.
